History of South Little League

South Little League was established in 1965 with 104 youth and their families and was originally located at the current Philo-Hill Magnet School fields in Winston-Salem, NC.  Shortly after, due to growth and a generous offer from the Krites family, South Little League was relocated to Clemmonsville Road in 1971 where it is still located to this day. 

South Little League currently serves 140-210 families each season.  For many, the ballfield is their safe haven.  They don’t only come to the fields for their one baseball or softball game.  They stay there all day, playing wall ball with friends, eating the famous fries at the concession stand, watching other friends play their games, and playing whiffle ball in the open fields.  This is what it’s all about, and we are attempting to reach more of these children in our community.  Many years ago, South Little League served 500 families per season on average.  Our goal is to bring these peak numbers back.  We have families at our organization who have been here since it’s inception.  Listening to them tell stories and memories of how it used to be is inspiring.
